Building in the gap

The pattern

It is hard to attract capital to a market that doesn’t resemble something capital has already seen succeed. There are two versions:

  1. Your idea resembles a past success — easy to start, hard to win (you compete on familiarity).
  2. Your idea resembles a past failure — the “scar tissue” shuts down the conversation even when the new idea only rhymes with the old one.

The second gap is where the real opportunity sits.

Why the gap is the opportunity

  • “Too unusual for most” and “too late for newcomers” is the most valuable window — and it’s always shorter than it looks from the outside.
  • Capital’s pattern-matching avoids bad bets from the last cycle — and that same instinct prevents it from seeing good bets in this one.

The three gaps I’m building in

  • Neurodivergent learners. 15–20% of the population, systematically under-served by learning design built for a neurotypical majority. The research priorities are set by autistic people themselves (see neuro.mneurix.dev).
  • Regional / non-VC markets. Operators outside the consumer-tech/VC circuit — the people who need a system of record they can trust, not a demo.
  • Credentialing trust. Established issuers are trusted but not intelligent; AI-forward products are intelligent in the demo but haven’t earned trust. The gap between them is where the system-of-record-first bet lives.

The architectural bet

The temptation is to lead with AI. The more important decision is architectural and quieter: build the system of record first — compliant, trusted, accurate — so the intelligence layer has something real to stand on. AI is only ever as good as the structured, trustworthy data underneath it.

What this means for Mneurix

  • This blog is the public reasoning layer. strategy here; learn for the trust stack; neuro for the neurodivergent body of knowledge.
  • The Lattice (the product) is the system of record. These three subdomains are how we earn the trust the product needs.
